About copper (metal element)

Copper is a transitional element, chemical symbol Cu, English copper, atomic number 29. Pure copper is a soft metal. When the surface is cut, it is red-orange with a metallic luster. High ductility, thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity make it the most commonly used material in cables, electrical and electronic components. Copper alloys have excellent mechanical properties and low resistivity, the most important of which are bronze and brass. Copper is also a durable metal that can be recycled many times without compromising its mechanical properties.

Bivalent copper salt is the most common copper compounds, the hydrated ion is blue, and chloride ligand is green, is the source of azurite and turquoise minerals such as color, was widely used as a pigment in history. Copper green (alkaline copper carbonate) is produced when the structure of copper buildings is corroded. The decorative arts are mainly made of metal copper and pigments containing copper.

Copper is one of the earliest metals used by man. As early as prehistoric times, people began to dig open copper mines and use it to make weapons, tools and other utensils. Copper is a metal found in the earth’s crust and oceans. Copper content in the earth’s crust is about 0.01%, and in individual copper deposits, copper content can reach 3% to 5%. Most of the copper in nature is found in compounds called copper ores.

The activity of copper is weak, and the reaction between iron and copper sulfate can replace copper. Copper is not soluble in non-oxidizing acids.
